I totally agree. Honestly, I think people who write these things are pretentious and self-important. I mean, who the hell cares about what you think about parenting, weight loss, politics, or whatever. Seriously, I don’t.
Yet, here I am, dropping a Mercedes (no, I don’t own one) payment on a domain, WordPress theme, etc. More than anything, I come away from discussions with the impression that people valued some insight that I offered, especially around matters of faith, and I think that someone might be edified by catching up on these things. When I drive, I think deep thoughts, sometimes unconventional thoughts, about what it means to be a Christian, a father, a husband, an American, a person, whatever. I think someone should read that.
So yes, writing a blog is self-important. I guess I should just go out and admit that my thoughts and ideas are unique enough to share with the anonymity of the internet, and that indeed makes me self-important. There. I will join the thousands (tens of thousands? millions?!) of people who waste their time archiving their thoughts. But guess what, you’ve gone this far, so that’s pretty cool.
